Nightsong
Farms maintains closed herds of registered Saanen
dairy goats, commercial Angora goats and registered
Brecknock Hill Cheviot sheep. The Saanen dairy goats
provide wonderful milk for our table and to make
our smooth goats milk soap. Our Angoras provide
luscious mohair for handspinners and our little
Brecknocks fine wool.
Our
Saanens are a Swiss breed of dairy goat which produces
creamy milk used for our soaps. It emulsifies well
to produce a creamy, smooth bar that feels wonderful
on the skin. We usually sell only buck kids. They
are raised on CAE prevention and only relesased
after weaning and vaccinations are complete. We
do not sell for meat.
The
Angoras are fiber goats which originated in Turkey
and are the supply of our beautiful, soft, curly
mohair. We sell mohair from the farm as well as
at shows to handspinners, weavers and felters. Our
mohair is sold as fiber, batts, rolags and yarns.
As a rule we do not have Angoras for sale as we
only breed for replacement.
The
Brecknocks are miniature sheep originating in Scotland
and the British Isles. They are the newest addition
to our farm, arriving in 2002. These little sheep
provide us with springy, soft wool for handspinners,
weavers, felters. Our knitters and crocheters like
the strength and elasticity of this wool for socks.
Again we have few for sale as we breed for replacement
